The Wild Character is for more experienced PC users. It offers greater flexiblity and power. On Windows the
* commonly represents the Wild Character, but we were forced to use the
˙ character instead since Windows allows a
* character in a registry folder name. In other words, if we used the
* character then Active Privacy Guardian could not tell the difference between a normal
* character and a wild
* character. Therefore we chose a character that nobody uses, the
˙ character.
The Wild Character
˙ simply tells the program "You can replace anything with the
˙ character." Please see the examples below:
Example 1:
If you wanted to wash all folders that started with Adobe then you would enter
C:\My Documents\Adobe˙
Example 2
If you wanted to wash all files that started with 2000 and ended in .mp3 then you would enter
C:\My Documents\2000˙.mp3
Example 3:
Active Privacy Guardian is so powerful that you can even place the wild character anywhere within the full pathname such as
C:\My Documents˙\Adobe˙ Home ˙4˙\my files˙
Now that's flexibilty that no other washer software offers. So what would that match? A lot! This is a match:
C:\My Documents 2004\Adobe2 Home 14B\my files - back ups. Do you have a feel for it now?
So how do you enter the
˙ character within Custom Clean? It's quite simple. Just click on the
Insert Wild Character button!
